After my dissapointing running experience at the gym, I didn’t call it quits - nope, I hopped on my favorite bike (recumbent) and pedaled like mad. For 30 min. For 17.4 miles. Me luv bike.

Dude, step away from the treadmill

So, I know I was a bit naive to think that I could get a treadmill on a Monday night at Bally Total Fitness. But I just figured I would wait my turn and there would eventually be one, which is what happened. The thing that kinda irked me was that some guy preempted the line when it came to my turn, and when I gently said “Hi, we’ve all been waiting back here for a while,” his response was to look at me rudely and say “Oh, yeah? You have? Really?” Luckily, I am my father’s daughter and I pulled myself up to my full height of 5′ 4″ (which reached him in the pectoral area) looked him square in the eye and said, “yeah.” I think he figured out that my center of gravity is lower than his, because he moved away and relinquished the treadmill.

Of course, he moved to the side and proceeded to stare me down for all 20 minutes I was there - the bad news being that it threw me off so much and I had a really crappy run (muscle cramps, sub-standard treadmill). I also found out that there is a 30 min limit on the cardio machines @ Bally. Whoops. I will need to go somewhere else for my long runs, I guess.

Never fear, dear reader - I got on a bike and pedaled away for 30 min (separate post - I love me the chart colors) and got a total of 50 min in.

Biking - boy did my booty hurt afterward

I did my first (in a LONG TIME) hills workout on the recumbent bike today - level 5 - pushed, pushed, pushed. Was sweating, breathing heavy and my butt cramped in the last 3rd. But, boy, did it feel good!!!

Another day at the gym!

I actually convinced my hubby to go the the gym with me for the third time this week (yahoo!) and I:

  • ran
  • did a little strength training
  • biked

Biking and strength training stats posted separately (I like the pretty charts).

It was my first workout using my brand new iPod Nano (!!!!!! - thank you for those who gave us Macy’s gift certificates through the years - we finally spent them!) and it was awesome. Especially listening to the Ocean Mix of “All this for a King” by Dave Crowder on repeat during bike workout.

Noteable - only ran one mile, but RAN most of it. During the cool down (not included in pace above), I was walking at 4.0 and 3.5 - who cools down going that fast? I guess, me… :)

That’s right - worked out on the bike as a “cool down” following my 4 miles on foot. I have been told that the biking to walking ratio is 3:1 so I’m feeling like I got past my 5 mile goal today.

What? The Gym?

I know, you are falling out of your chair right now. I finally got to the gym. Have you caught your breath yet?

Okay, here is the rundown of my Sunday night visit to Bally Total Fitness.

  • 20 min on bike - 7.5 miles
  • 10 min of hills on treadmill - 4.3 mph
  • 10+ min on the rowing machine - burn baby, burn
  • 2 sets of 10 reps of:
    • arm curls at 30 pounds
    • lat pulls on cable machine (have forgotten poundage, brain got fuzzy)
    • chest press (3 sets of this)
    • bicep on cable machine (see aforementioned fuzziness)
  • 30 crunches on the awful crunch machine - um, ow!?!
  • 10 min of stretching - aaaaaaaahhhhhh……

The good news is that I was able to walk (and sit) the next day - the bad news is that it seems I have a pinched nerve in my back that is causing some pain.

Other good news - I’m going back!

Easy Run - trying out the neighborhood

Just a quick run today - trying out the area around our home to see if I can run here at night - answer: probably not. I need to find a good dirt path that isn’t filled w. dogs and walkers who stop to talk to people in cars driving by.

Tomorrow is a 3 mile, today was just to get me warmed up :)

Everyone congratulate my friend Joy on finishing the San Diego Marathon this weekend - she’s awesome (and even got her man to sign up to run with us at the Disney 1/2 Marathon in August)! Go Joy! Go Shervin! Go team Dupuikenarivar!
